The Letterkenny Rovers pitch at the Aura Leisure Centre has been closed after it was inadvertently sprayed with weedkiller.

Donegal Daily understands the intention was to apply fertiliser to the playing surface a number of weeks ago. However, the lush green grass turned yellow within a matter of days.

Once the mistake was discovered, the pitch was immediately closed. The club is currently undertaking work to address the problem, but it is believed it will remain out of use until the New Year at least.

Letterkenny Rovers is a tenant at the Aura and is responsible for the maintenance of the pitch to the rear of the complex.

Aura management confirmed it is not responsible for the grass playing field.
