Main pic: Bernie Boyle and Declan Ferry who completed the double for Rosses AC, winning the men’s and women’s County 5k Road Championship titles.

Last Friday evening saw the Shane Boner Memorial 5k held on the iconic Milford 5k route for the senior county road race championships.

It turned out to be another fantastic night for the Rosses AC athletes. In the men’s section, Declan Ferry achieved his goal of sub-15 mins for a 5k thanks to a toe to toe battle with Finn Valleys John Jo Doherty. Declan won in a close finish to become county champion in a time of 14:59. Not to be outdone in the ladies section, Bernie Boyle has had a blistering two years of running and put in another outstanding effort to take the win and become county female senior 5k champion in 18:58.

Some of the Rosses AC Athletes who took part in the Donegal 5k Road Championships in Milford.

Mark Ward ran 16:51 to win the M35 gold. Patrick Trimble took county M50 bronze with 17:29 just ahead of Declan Gallagher who took county M40 gold in 17:30. Eoin Boyle was the next Rosses man home in 18:46, Norman McClean a PB of 19:12, Michael Logue 19:17, Conor Boyle 19:28, Denis Boner 20:05 and Shane Trearty 22:35. Our junior ladies have been excelling in recent times and they did the club and themselves proud taking a 1,2 with Kevea Gallagher running 19:58 for the win and gold and Leah Ward hot on her heels in 20:07 to take silver. Martina Mulhern added gold, taking the F40 crown in 20:22. Ashleigh ni Suibhne ran 20:54, Cathy Breslin taking F50 silver in 22:09, Emer Magee and Sarah Mullholland clocking 22:48 and Karen Devenney 22:52 which earned her an F40 bronze. We also again had good team success with the team of Bernie, Martina and Karen taking F35 team gold and our F50 team of Cathy, Emer and Sarah edging Finn Valley to take team gold as well. We had team senior Silver’s for Declan Ferry, Mark Ward, Declan Gallagher and Eoin Boyle behind Finn Valley and M50 silver for Patrick Trimble, Norman McClean and Michael Logue who were just edged by Inishowen.

On Saturday David McKelvey was a clear winner in the very gruelling Monte Challenge held in Mountcharles. This athlete has once again proved his strength and endurance. This weekend sees the Cross Country season kick off in Finn Valley with the Donegal Masters Cross Country Championships as well as the Champions Cup hosted by the Finn Valley club for all u9 to u18s.
