Sunday 22nd September

Fanad United 2 v 0 Carndonagh F.C.
Fanad United progressed to the next round of the FAI Junior Cup after a 2-0 victory over Carndonagh FC at Traigh-a-Loch on Sunday. It was Fanad who had the first chance in the second minute, after a corner the ball fell to Eoin Logue on the edge of the box but his shot whistled just wide of the post. Fanad continued to push and went ahead in the 15th minute. After good work from Keelin Mc Elwaine the ball was laid on to the inrushing Dylan Mc Glone and his cross come shot nestled in the top corner from 20 yards. On the half hour mark Peter Carr went on a mazy run down the right and his pin-point cross was headed wide by Darren Mc Elwaine. Carndonagh were well in the game and on 35 minutes Cade Cooke showed great strength in the box to hold off 2 markers and his shot produced an excellent save from Mark Mc Conigley. On the stroke of half time Fanad came agonisingly close to a second goal when Keelin Mc Elwaine’s shot from 20 yards came back off the crossbar. Ten minutes into the second half Fanad made their pressure count when Darren Mc Elwaine scored with an excellent free kick from 25 yards. Game was open at this stage and with 10 minutes to go, Carndonagh keeper Daniel Mc Daid produced a fantastic save to deny Oisin Mc Menamin. 2 minutes later Mc Daid produced another fine save to deny Keelin Mc Elwaine. As the final whistle was about to blow, Oisin Mc Menamin had another chance but dragged his shot wide. Referee: Alister Gourley
