A driver was arrested last night after being clocked travelling at 79 Kph over the speed limit.

The motorists was detected doing 179 Kph (111.2 Mph) in a 100 Kph (62.1 Mph) zone on the N13 last by the Buncrana Roads Policing Unit. The driver was arrested and charged to appear in court.

It comes just hours after another driver was arrested in the Letterkenny District yesterday morning for being traveling at 174 kph on a 100kph stretch of road

An Orange Weather Warning is currently in place and Storm Ashley is expected to bring very strong winds. This may lead to difficult travelling conditions.

“Drive at a safe speed and remain alert for fallen trees and debris on the roads,” a garda spokesperson said.

“Expect the unexpected and be in a position to stop suddenly and safely should you have to. Stay safe.”
