Gardaí have issued an appeal to farmers and builders after the theft of two sets of digger track pads from a yard in Kilmacrennan last week.

The incident occurred at Ellistrin sometime between 3pm on Monday the 14th of October and 6.30pm on Sunday the 20th. A yard was entered and two sets of digger track pads were stolen. One set was 78 x 40cm and the other was 88 x 70cm.

“Transport, such as a van or trailer, would likely have been required to remove these items from the yard,” Garda Claire Rafferty said.

“We appeal to residents in that area to make contact with us if they observed any suspicious vehicles or activity in that area between those dates. Should anybody come across similar items for sale on a second hand basis, we ask them to alert Gardaí.

Milford Gardaí may be contacted on 074-9153060 with any information. The Garda Confidential line may be reached on 1800 666 111.

Meanwhile, Gardaí are investigating the theft of four Renault tractor front weights (36-38kg each) and six Massey Tractor weights (46kg each) from a yard in the area of Gortcally, Kerrykeel.

The incident took place sometime between August 20th and October 21st . Anybody who may be able to assist with relevant information is urged to make contact with Gardaí in Milford on 0749153060. Should anybody come across similar items for sale on a second hand basis, they are asked to make contact with Gardaí immediately.

“In light of the above incidents, we ask anybody involved in construction or farming to conduct a review of the security measures that they have in place,” Gda Rafferty added.

Ensure that tools/machinery of a high value are locked away and that there is adequate lighting in place. The use of cameras should be considered also.

“We also ask members of the public to always contact Gardaí immediately if they observe any type of suspicious activity or vehicles in their area.”

Sergeant Fergus McGroary, who is the Divisional Crime Prevention Officer, is available to advise in relation to security measures should anybody wish to speak with him. He may be contacted in Letterkenny Garda Station on 074-9167100.
