Derry police advise of Halloween traffic disruptions

Police are advising motorists and the public to expect disruption in Derry this week during the Halloween festivities.

There will be road closures in the city centre from today until Wednesday between 4pm and 10pm each day.

“For those travelling from outside the city, please be aware that Foyle Street remains closed due to ongoing work,” a PSNI spokesperson said.

In Derry, there will be road closures in the city centre on Monday, 28 October; Tuesday, 29 October and on Wednesday, 30 October between 4pm and 10pm each day.
These are: Shipquay Street, Bank Place, Union Hall Street, Magazine Street, Butcher Street, The Diamond, Shipquay Street, Ferryquay Street, Bishop Street within, Society Street, London Street, Pump Street, Artillery Street, Fountain Street and Hawkin Street. From 2pm until 10pm on these days, Magazine Street Upper and Palace Street will be closed.

The main Halloween parade route in the city, on Thursday 31st October, leaves from Queens Quay Car Park at 7pm, along Queens Quay to Strand Road, Harbour Square Roundabout, Foyle Embankment (Southbound), Water Street, Foyle Embankment (Northbound), Harbour Square Roundabout, Queens Quay and back to Queens Quay Car Park. Queens Quay and Upper Strand Road will close from 6pm to accommodate the parade.

The Peace Bridge will be closed from 7pm in advance of the fireworks, reopening shortly before 9pm.

On Thursday, 31 October, Castle Street in Strabane will close from Abercorn Square to the junction of Castle Place from 7am to 6pm.

Those wishing to view the fireworks display at Melvin Sports Complex are encouraged to use town centre parking.
