Three local sports clubs are set to receive a funding boost following a successful appeal under the Community Sport Facilities Fund.

Finn Valley Swimming Club was allocated €200,000, Kildrum Tigers €27,168 for a training pitch and Naomh Ultan got €129,628 for a new pitch.

Fine Gael election candidate John McNulty has welcomed the news.

He said: “I was delighted to hear that Naomh Ultan GAA Club, Finn Valley Swimming Pool and Kildrum Tigers were successful in their appeals.

“These sports clubs will now be in a position to develop the pitches, and for Finn Valley, an energy-efficient heating system.

“Our local sports clubs are the at the heart of our communities in Donegal.

“The volunteers involved with these clubs give so much of their valuable time to ensure the smooth running of their clubs and I am delighted to see this funding come in recognition of this commitment.

“Investment in sport is crucial for our clubs and organisations given the significant positive impact they have on the overall health and wellbeing of our population.

“Having access to sports clubs will encourage more participation in sport and support positive mental and physical health.

“I have worked closely with and advocated for our sports clubs across Donegal and will continue to do so to support their continued positive contribution to their respective communities.

“This is another example of Fine Gael’s commitment to supporting our Donegal communities, with the funding going a long way in assisting sports club across the county and country.

“I look forward to continuing this working relationship and seeing the improvements made to Donegal clubs with this funding,” McNulty concluded.

Councillor Patrick McGowan welcomed the decision to award the €200,000 Sports grant for Finn Valley Leisure Centre for an energy-efficient heating system.
