Raphoe to draw visitors from afar when it lights up as ‘Christmas Village’

Raphoe is set to sparkle next week when it will be transformed into a ‘Christmas Village’ destination for everyone. 

A number of events will kick-off the Festive Season in the Heritage Town and award winning Tidy Town.

Things will get underway early on Friday, November 29, with the launch of the Festival of Christmas Trees in St Eunan’s Cathedral at 12 noon (Through to Sunday Dec 1st).

From 5pm, there will be entertainment in the Diamond, with the Finn Valley Men’s Choir, Christy Murray & his band of Merry Tin Whistlers, Sarah Jane & surprise guests!

At 6pm will be the big Christmas Lights Switch-On with Isabell Mc Cormack (One of Raphoe’s most treasured & senior citizens), accompanied by Martin Laird (Supervisor Raphoe Tidy towns).

The Raphoe Ulster Scots Pipe band will lead the arrival of the Big Man himself. Santa will have a gift for every girl and boy, and refreshments will also be served. Great photo opportunity.

Mulled wine (Raphoe community in action clg), Hot Soup (Compliments of Gala), Hot Chocolate (compliments Raphoe Family Resource Centre & our New Community).

A Crib Exhibition opens in St Eunan’s Church (Through January 6th), and it will be the largest private collection of cribs in Donegal!

Also, the Santa Express starts at Oakfield Park (Through December 23rd).

Saturday 30th November Programme

11 -5pm Christmas Village Market in the Diamond, local businesses, Seasonal stalls, home baking etc.

Mary’s meals annual Christmas Fair, with a selection of traditional stalls 

2 – 4pm Entertainment with Johnny Haughey

From 4pm Music with Aoife & Eugene Mc Ginley

Sunday 1st December.

1 – 5pm Christmas Village Market 

Some returning local businesses and some new crafty stalls (handmade jewellery etc)

Mary’s meals continuing annual Christmas Fair

2 – 4pm Music with Christy Murray and friends 

7pm St Eunan’s Cathedral Community Christmas Carol Service

Continuing  with the Christmas theme Raphoe Playground are hosting their annual Christmas Quiz in Friels on Thursday December 5th at 8pm, prizes for the best Christmas jumper ( or T -shirt/top etc.) All proceeds go towards Christmas lights Appeal RCIA clg. The Volt House.

Raphoe Christmas village is part funded by Donegal County Council, and kind donations from local businesses and  sponsors.
