There is major flooding in Killybegs this morning as locals will be counting the cost of Storm Bert.

Storm Bert has brought havoc across Donegal, with over 23,000 people currently without power in the county according to the ESB.

Meanwhile overnight Killybegs was struck with widespread flooding, with emergency crews on the scene overnight working to lessen the impact of the floods and assist locals.

According to local Councillor Manus Boyle, a tree had fallen and blocked a river – causing water to flow directly into the path of the town.

However, Cllr Boyle says that the flow of flood water has slowed following the removal of the tree – but residents across the town are counting the cost of significant flood damage.

An image shared on social media by Eileen’s Unisex Hairsalon shows Bridge Street in the town submerged in at least one inch of water.

Weather warnings for County Donegal have been extended into Sunday and Monday, with Met Éireann forecasting severe winds across both days.
