New GAA rule changes approved ahead of 2025 National League

A raft of GAA rule changes have been emphatically approved by delegates at Croke Park today.

The proposals, crafted by Jim Gavin’s Football Review Committee, will represent some of the biggest changes made to gaelic football in modern times.

Among the numerous universal rule changes, there will now be; a 1v1 throw-in at the start of the game, regulations requiring kickouts to travel beyond a 40-yard arc, new rules regarding passes back to the goalkeeper and keeping a minimum of three players in the opposition’s half, and 2 points being awarded for a kick over the bar from outside the 40-yard arc.

Those and more changes received well over the 60% approval needed from delegates at today’s meeting, making the rule changes official for the 2025 Allianz National League and any club competitions beginning in 2025 also.
