Carndonagh FC has opened its doors to the entire town’s community, after the shocking death of a teenager in a road crash overnight in Inishowen.

Gardaí say that an adult male teenager was killed in a single-car collision on the R244 (Mountain Road) at Ballinlough, near Buncrana, shortly after 5am this morning.

It’s understood the young man was from the Carndonagh area.

His death marks the eighteenth road fatality in County Donegal in 2024.

Carndonagh FC have announced that all of their senior games today have been cancelled, and that they will be opening up their clubhouse to allow the community to come together and support each other.

“After this morning’s devastating news we will open the clubhouse for anyone to come down,” Carn FC posted on social media.

“We welcome our players, Carn GAA, Inishowen Rugby and the community to come together during this time. It will be open from 1pm.”

Gardaí are continuing to appeal for witnesses to this morning’s fatal crash to come forward.

Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the Ballinlough area, on the R244 Mountain Road between 4:30am and 5.30am are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Buncrana Garda Station on 074 932 0540, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.
