Inishowen family in need after devastating fire

An Inishowen family have been left with nothing only the clothes on their backs following a devastating fire.

The fire broke out at a mobile home in Glengad on Monday evening.

The home, which was empty at the time, was quickly destroyed with all the family’s belongings.

The only silver lining is that no one was injured.

The family – Shaun Crossan, his partner Bernie Friel and their two-year-old daughter Kayla – are being supported by family and neighbours as they deal with the shock.

The response from the community has been amazing, says Shaun’s sister Stephanie Mc Farland.

“In credit to the neighbours they all ran to help,” Stephanie said.

“The response and offers of donations I am getting on Facebook is unreal.

“People are so kind, donating clothes, high chairs, cots, and prams for their little girl.

“They’ve lost everything. The Christmas presents, jewellery, keys, all gone.”

Stephanie adds that Shaun and Bernie now face the urgent task of finding a place to live.

“They have an Airbnb for a few nights but obviously it has bookings.”

Anyone with a house to rent can contact Stephanie on her Facebook page here.

Stephanie is also co-ordinating a GoFundMe page to take in donations to help the family get essential items.

In her appeal, Stephanie said: “With it only a few weeks now to Christmas, and I know times are tight, but if you could please donate even €5 or donate kids clothing it would be greatly appreciated to this young family to help them in someway pick up the pieces and show them they’re not alone.”
