A public meeting will be held in Fintown tonight on the future of one of Donegal’s best tourist attractions.

The amazing 5Km long Fintown Railway has been running, thanks to a small community group, since June 1995.

However, the current voluntary directors are due to retire, and call has gone out to prospective new members.

As a result, a public meeting to secure the future of the much loved attraction will take place at the Day Centre, Fintown, tonight at 8pm.

One of the directors, Seán Ó Ceallaigh, said there is an urgent need to appoint new executives to manage and further develop this unique tourism project.

“We have a wonderful facility at Fintown which attracts many visitors annually,” he said this week.

“We are very fortunate to have access to great workers under the Community Employment Scheme that keeps the show on the road throughout the year.”

However, he added, new directors are needed as a matter of urgency.

“Going forward, a new management team may be able to access new funding streams that will progress the railway,” he said.

He extended an open invitation to tonight’s meeting to members of the public, all elected representatives and Údarás na Gaeltachta members.
