Donegal Community Games Chairman Manus O’Donnell scooped the Volunteer of the Year award for his county at this year’s National Volunteer Awards.

The Milford man has been involved with Community Games since 2008 when his children began participating.

O’Donnell took on the role of County Chairman for Donegal Community Games in 2013, a position he continues to hold with passion and commitment.

Cairn Community Games hosted the National Volunteer Awards ceremony on November 30th at the Mullingar Park Hotel to recognise the tireless efforts of individuals who have made significant contributions to their communities through the organisation.

The awards were judged by a distinguished panel consisting of Stuart Garland from Volunteer Ireland, Joanne Kennedy from Sport Ireland, and Jimmy Connell from the Arts sector.

Manus was supported by a big contingent of Donegal people on the night.

On receiving the award, Manus thanked all from his own area and indeed the whole county. He wanted to thank everyone for all messages as far away as Australia, USA, England, and Scotland.

Manus said this award is for all people within Donegal community games, not only for him.

He said the help he gets from all areas in Donegal is unbelievable.

Children’s officers Jennifer Hunter and Nancy McNamee said it was a proud day to be from Donegal and it was a great day to be there with Manus.

They also went on to say “no better man than Manus, he is always there to lend a helping hand to everyone”.

County PRO Tony McCarry said he was also delighted for Manus and was delighted to be present on this special occasion. He also congratulated Manus and his wife Joan on their big weekend and wished them well on their holiday.

“All at Donegal community games are so proud of you and we’re so lucky to have you as our Chairperson,” Tony added.
