Gardaí are appealing for witnesses after a van was stolen in Fanad last week before being crashed and burned out.

Initially, local guards attended the scene of a crash at Ballykinard, Rosnakill, on Wednesday, December 11, after they were alerted to a vehicle on fire there at approximately 7.35pm. The fire services extinguished the blaze, however, extensive damage had been caused to the Citroen Berlingo with a partial registration of ‘131 DL 25’.

Nobody was in the van and the surrounding area was checked, but nobody was located. It was established that the van had been stolen from Ballymagowan Upper, Kerrykeel, sometime after 5pm the same day.

“The van had hit a stone bridge and it is believed to have been travelling from Fanad towards Kerrykeel at the time of the collision,” Garda Clare Rafferty said.

“We appeal to anybody who may have any information in relation to the theft of this van to make contact with Gardaí in Milford on 074-9153060.”

If anybody observed it being driven between 5pm and 7.30pm, they are also urged to contact Gardaí. If any road users travelled in the area of Ballykinard between 7pm and 7.35pm with a dash cam, they are asked to get in touch with Gardaí also. The Garda Confidential Line may be contacted on 1800 666 111.
