Main pic: Rosses AC athletes at the Jingle Bells 5k in Donegal Town were Bernie Boyle, Mark Ward, Declan Gallagher and Patrick Trimble.

The weekend past saw Rosses AC athletes compete locally and internationally.

Locally, a number of athletes took part in the Park Runs within Dungloe, Narin or Falcarragh. On Sunday the action was in Donegal Town at the Jingle Bells 5k hosted by Tir Chonaill AC. In the ladies section new ladies club captain Bernie Boyle had a strong run to finish second in a great time of 19:31. In the men’s race a strong run by Mark Ward in a time of 17:13 saw him collect 3rd place with Declan Gallagher on his heels in 4th and first M40 in a time of 17:47. Patrick Trimble also took the opportunity to get another race in before Xmas taking the M50 category win in a good time of 18:33.

Over in Paris, Maria Ni Mhaolagain decided to take on the 10km de la Tour Eiffel and was delighted with her run coming home to a new personal best in 36:13.

The club recently held its AGM and it was a very positive meeting with a good attendance. We had a few people stand down for various reasons and the club would really like to thank these individuals for the time they volunteered and committed to the club over a number of years and many were instrumental in bringing the club forward to where we are now. Congratulations to the new committee members and best wishes for the year ahead. Chairperson – Michael McElroy. Vice Chair – Cormac McGarvey. Secretary- Roseleen McGarvey.  Treasurer – Margaret McBride. Registrar – Lorraine Doherty. Safeguarding Officer- Cathriona Brennan. Development Officer – Michael Logue. PRO: Senior – Keith O Connell. Juvenile- Michael Logue. Youth Liaison Officer – Leah McGarvey. Club Captains: Men – Charlie O Donnell, Women – Bernie Boyle.

Sporthall finished up last week and there was a great treat for the children when Santa turned up and even ran a relay race with the children before handing out selection boxes. Well done to Catriona Brennan and her team of helpers who have made sure the Sportshall happens every week and there have been 70+ attending each week.

Save the date for the Darren Mills Memorial Run/Walk 2025 over a  6k run/walk taking in a return route to Darren’s Memorial monument in Cruit Island. There will be a shorter option to Cruit bridge and back for younger/older participants. Proceeds this year go to the upkeep of St Mary’s Hall Kincasslagh. There will also be the annual New Year’s Day 5k from Mullaghduff Hall on Jan 1st which is always a great way to start the new year. The club would like to wish all our club members and supporters a very merry Christmas and thanks to all for the support and great work you do during the year.
