Dungloe-based hotelier, Pat Boyle, is the new owner of the historic Claragh House near Ramelton.

Eighter Properties Ltd, of which Mr Boyle is a director, is seeking planning permission for a temporary marquee at the mansion, according to planning documents submitted to Donegal County Council.

The company is also behind a number of developments in Dungloe, including the revamped Sweeney’s Hotel and the former Bank of Ireland building.

TV personality Francis Brennan (left) with Pat Boyle in 2022 on the Sweeney’s Hotel site during filming for the ‘At Your Service’ programme.

Claragh House, a country pile on 23 acres, went on the market in July 2023 with an asking price of €1.45 million.

The mansion has nine bedrooms, numerous reception rooms and an overall area of 723 sq m (7,782sq ft).

It was originally built for the Watt family, famous distillery owners in Derry, who had lived in Claragh since 1725, building the present house in 1890.

It was bought by the Davidson family in the 1980s, who owned it up until it was placed on the market in 2023.
