Kind-hearted Slimming World leader inspires generous donation to Ronald McDonald House

A Letterkenny-based Slimming World consultant, driven by her own personal experience, has inspired members across Donegal to raise €822.36 for Ronald McDonald House.

December was not only a month of weight loss for members of the local Slimming World groups, but also a time of giving back to those in need. This year, the groups chose Ronald McDonald House Charities as the beneficiary of their fundraising efforts, raising an impressive €822.36.

The connection to the charity is a personal one for Catherine Bond, who leads the Letterkenny group. In 2014, her son Paddy was treated in the burns unit at Crumlin Hospital, where she was introduced to the vital support offered by Ronald McDonald House Charities. Catherine quickly learned how many families, particularly from Donegal, were relying on the charity’s services during difficult times, and she knew she wanted to help.

When the opportunity arose to raise funds for the charity, Catherine jumped at the chance. Fellow consultants Annemarie and Marie joined in by placing donation buckets in their groups in Letterkenny, Buncrana, Stranorlar, Kerrykeel and Newtowncunningham. Throughout December, members generously donated spare change and purchased Santa hats, with all proceeds going directly to Ronald McDonald House Charities.

The funds raised will be used to support families staying at the Ronald McDonald House, allowing them to remain close to their children who are receiving treatment at CHI Crumlin. The charity provides a vital lifeline to families, helping them with accommodation, meals, and everyday needs so they can focus on being there for their child without added stress.

On behalf of the Slimming World groups, Catherine was delighted to hand over the €822.36 donation to Victor Byrne from the Letterkenny store, ensuring that every cent will go towards helping families face the challenges of their child’s illness together.

The Ronald McDonald House Charities plays an important role in supporting families, ensuring they don’t have to worry about where they’ll sleep, eat, or park their car while their child is undergoing treatment. The work of the charity is invaluable, and the Slimming world consultants are proud to have made a positive impact.

“We are so grateful to our members for their generosity this December,” said Catherine. “It’s wonderful to know that our efforts will help families stay close to their children and receive the support they need during a very challenging time.”
