McGowan welcomes end to east Donegal ‘half Litter Warden’ issue

A Councillor has welcomed confirmation that there will no longer just be a ‘half’ Litter Warden in east Donegal.

Cllr Patrick McGowan made the comment during a discussion on environmental issues at this morning’s meeting of the Lifford-Stranorlar Municipal District (MD).

“We are sharing our Litter Warden with Inishowen, even though they already have one,” he said.

“That means Inishowen has one-and-a-half wardens, leaving us with only half of one. There is supposed to be one full-time warder per Municipal District.”

In response, Caroline McCleary of Donegal County Council’s Environment Section, confirmed that ‘significant progress’ had been made that a full-time warden should be in place for the MD by the end of next month.

Cllr McGowan gave the news a cautious welcome, adding “watch this space.”
