Promising Finn Harps midfielder, Gavin McAteer, has been called into the Republic of Ireland U17 squad.

The Milford teenager has been drafted in by Irish manager Colin O’Brien as part of a 22-player squad for a trip to Spain.

Ireland face Finland on Wednesday and Hungary on Saturday with both games taking place in Oliva Nova near Valencia.

As a result, McAteer will be absent when Harps face Kerry FC at Mounthawk Park on Friday in their opening game of the season.
