Cars parked illegally for Sunday’s big game ‘may’ be towed – Gardaí

Gardaí have warned that cars parked illegally during tomorrow’s match between Donegal and Armagh in Ballybofey may be ticketed or towed away.

The Allianz Division 1 Football League clash will throw-in at MacCumhaill Park at 3.45pm, with gates open from 2pm. Thousands are expected to descend on the Twin Towns to watch the All-Ireland champions take on Jim McGuinness’ charges.

Spectators are advised to expect traffic delays, both before and after the match.

“While we endeavour to assist traffic movement as much as possible, the large numbers attending will result in unavoidable delays. Adding additional time for your journey is advisable,” a garda spokesperson said.

Parking will be available in several car parks around the towns and spectators are advised to utilise these areas fully.

“We ask all persons attending the game to please park responsibly,” the spokesperson added.

“Do not park in a manner that causes obstruction to footpaths, private entrances or that obstructs the free flow of traffic. Any vehicles found to be causing an obstruction will be subject to fixed charge notices as necessary and may be towed. This is to ensure a free flow of traffic for everyone pre and post match.”

Again the Sean MacCumhaills club will be facilitating supervised parking at the Ballybofey & Stranorlar Mart as indicated on the map (below) with the club crest.
This car park is less than a 5 min walk to the grounds. The cost is €5 per car. The car park will open from 12 noon and close one hour after the game. All proceeds raised will be used to support underage development goals.

Only vehicles authorised by Donegal GAA will be permitted access to park at the MacCumhaill Park main entrance. Limited parking for Blue Badge holders is available at the car park at the covered stand entrance (behind Villa Rose hotel). Vehicle access to this car park is via Back Road at Jackson’s Hotel. Once this area is full, there will be no vehicle access to this area. There is limited disabled parking availability on the Main Street and in car parks in the vicinity of the grounds.

“Please follow directions from Gardaí, security staff and stewards in the area. We hope that everyone has an enjoyable day and we wish both teams the best of luck.”

This is a ticket only event. Only match ticket holders will be permitted entry to the ground. “Also, please note that no alcohol is permitted inside the ground, any alcohol found inside the ground will be subject to confiscation.”
