Carndonagh firefighter Liam Shiels had a podium finish at the World’s Strongest Firefighter Competition in the US this month.

Liam, who serves with the DL13 brigade, secured second place in his weight category at the prestigious event in Columbus Ohio.

Liam’s achievement earned him congratulations from the event’s organizer, legendary action star and former governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.

This is the sixth edition of the World’s Strongest Firefighter competition, which invites active-duty firefighters from different countries around the world to compete in events that are the ultimate test of strength and endurance.  Events include the Ambulance Tire Axle Press, Silver Dollar Deadlift and Fire Hydrant Load.

Liam, who owns Pure Grit Gym in Carndonagh, has competed in the event three times in total and was the sole Irish participant this year.

His colleagues in the Donegal Firefighters Association have wished him a huge congratulations.
