Main pic: Charlie ‘Postie’ O’Donnell who had a strong run in the St Patrick’s Day 3k in Letterkenny.

Over the weekend there were a number of Rosses AC athletes who took part in different road race events.

Firstly, on St Patrick’s Day there was a 3km in Letterkenny with some top athletes taking part.

Two Rosses men took to the road with Charlie ‘Postie’ O’Donnell recording a top ten finish in a great time of 09:21. Graeme Edwards also made his debut in the club colours and had an absolute flyer running 10:32.

The women’s race saw Bernie Boyle run a swift 11:07 and Claire O Donnell powered round in a strong time of 11:41.

Over in Vancouver, Declan Ferry got his season kicked off in a very strong field running the St Patrick’s day 5k running 15:48.

On Saturday a number of athletes took part in the Dungloe parkrun with visitors from Essex, Belfast and Enniskillen joining regular runners. Come join the Park Run any Saturday at 9.30am  – runners, joggers and walkers all welcome in Dungloe opposite Lidl.

The club would like to express a big thanks to Hughie O’Donnell. As with all facilities maintenance is required. Over the past few months with all the weather we had the track surface at Carrickfinn had tightened in and a slippery surface had formed in some places. At the weekend, Hughie O’Donnell Ltd Groundworks & Landscaping gave up his time to take down equipment. Then, bit by bit, he worked the entire track to refresh the surface and do additional maintenance.

The track at Carrickfinn is a key resource for our community for walkers, joggers, etc to use and also used by a number of local clubs.  For Rosses Athletic Club the track is central to our track and field training for all ages and it is hugely appreciated by all at Rosses AC the time and effort put in by Hughie to ensure we have the facility required with many upcoming competitions. Big thanks from all the club.
