Oscar-nominated actor Ciarán Hinds has returned to Donegal for a new film production, it has been revealed.

The Belfast actor is in Buncrana working on a new Irish film, titled The Man with the Urn.

The Go Visit Inishowen tourism office has been buzzing with the news of activity in the town.

Word has spread quickly as camera crews and vans have been spotted in various locations.

Ciarán Hinds, who got an Oscar nod for his supporting role in critically acclaimed Belfast, is no stranger to Donegal. In 2022 he spent months in the south west of the county to star alongside Liam Neeson in the blockbuster film ‘In the Land of Saints and Sinners’.

Hinds has been known to call into local businesses and bars for some ceol agus craic when off-duty.

Go Visit Inishowen has said that Hinds already has connections with the peninsula, having acted in the 2006 drama ‘Amazing Grace’, which featured the experiences of John Newton. Newtown, a slave trader who changed his ways, famously penned the hymn when he landed on the shores of Lough Swilly.

Inishowen has another major movie release to look forward to soon. Cry From The Sea was filmed in Culdaff in 2023, starring Aidan Quinn (A Shine of Rainbows) and Dominic Cooper (Mamma Mia!).
