Last weekend saw a number of Rosses AC athletes compete at the National 10k road race championships held at Dunboyne.

A total of 1,300 took to the line for the highly anticipated competition with a strong elite field.

The Rosses AC ladies made the journey with Helen McCready (main pic) leading them home in a strong time of 38:12 for 5th in the F40 category. Bernie Boyle again showed her strength with a super time of 39:33 to narrowly miss out on a national F45 medal finishing 4th in her category. Since joining Rosses, Emily Bonner has been doing the club proud and again put in a great performance to run 45:28. The ladies finished 15th of the 42 clubs competing.

Over in Fintown, Paul McKelvey took on the duty of arranging an adventure race as part of the team west adventure race club’s winter League. The race started with a 5k run and Charlie Postie got off to a flyer in this part of the event, with David McKelvey and Declan Donnellan in hot pursuit. On the bike it was no surprise to see David McKelvey came to the fore but with these races you need to be super mindful of the exactness of the routes and a slight misjudgement on the 3.6km hill climb saw wylie veteren Declan Donnellan swoop in for the win. Ruth Candon was the First Lady back followed by Rosses adventure racing flyer Cathy Breslin. A big thanks and shoutout to all who took part and the marshals.

Niamh McGeever, Lucy Brennan, Cassie Gallagher and Katie Sharkey at the Finn Valley Centre.

Last week Finn Valley hosted an u9 to u12 competition and it was a great evening with many of our young athletes making the journey and all competed really well and came away with medals and good experience.

This weekend is the All Ireland Underage Indoor Championships in Athlone where all the qualifiers from the Ulster Championships now move forward to competing against the best athletes around Ireland. Good luck to all.
