A Donegal filmmaker has been honoured for his short documentary film about hand weaving in the county.

Simon Barr was awarded the Consulate of Ireland award at the recent Chicago Irish Film Festival.

His independent film, The Last of the Hand Weavers, has received rave reviews and slots at film festivals across the world, including festivals based in Los Angeles, San Jose and Sydney.

Simon’s film has also now been selected for an Oscar-qualifying international film festival, the In The Palace International Short Film Festival.

He posted his joy at picking up the Consulate of Ireland award via social media.

“I was delighted to have picked up the Consulate of Ireland Award at this year’s Chicago Irish film festival for my independent short film ‘The Last of the Hand Weavers'”, Simon posted.

“My filmmaking journey has come a long way over the years and I continue to reach new heights and develop my skills as a cinematographer and editor.”
