A pensioner killed in Co Donegal yesterday afternoon has been named locally.

The victim was named as Danny Gallagher from The Glebe in Downings.

The late Mr Gallagher, who was in his 70s, was a married man with a number of grown-up children.

He was the driver of a van involved in a single vehicle collision on the R245 outside Carrigart on the Milford Road.

The incident happened at approximately 1pm and Mr Gallagher was pronounced dead at the scene.

His body has since been removed to the mortuary at Letterkenny University Hospital where a post-mortem examination will take place in due course.
