Letterkenny academic, Megan McAuley, recently earned her PhD in History from Maynooth University.

A past pupil of Scoil Mhuire Gan Smál and Loreto Letterkenny, Dr. McAuley is the daughter of proud parents Joe and Pauline McAuley.

The conferring ceremony was held in March.

Megan is now lecturing/tutoring with Maynooth University and working with probate genealogists Finders International Ireland.

Megan was the recipient of the inaugural Offaly History/P. & H. Egan History Scholarship, which supported her doctoral studies within Maynooth University. She is also a joint recipient of the 2022 Economic and Social History Society ‘New Researchers Prize’ for her study of childhood and migratory labour in late nineteenth- and early twentieth-century County Donegal.

She previously received a BA in History and Nua-Ghaeilge and an MA in Irish History from Maynooth University.

Her passion for history was evident from her school days at Loreto, where she excelled in the subject, achieving first place in Ireland out of 8,752 students who took higher level History in the Leaving Certificate 2016.
