The Darkness into Light Walk for Pieta, the suicide and self-harm prevention charity, returns to Letterkenny on 10th May.

The Letterkenny sunrise walk is the largest in the county, with up to walkers and runners taking the candlelit route for various reasons of support, solidarity, remembrance and gratitude.

This year’s walk will take place at sunrise on Saturday, 10th May, at 4:15am at the ATU An Dánlann Building, and is once again proudly supported by Electric Ireland.

Whether you take part to remember a loved one, honour a personal journey, show solidarity, or make sure suicide and self-harm prevention services remain available in Ireland, every step you take and every euro you raise will help Pieta continue offering free, professional support to those at risk of suicide, self-harm, or affected by suicide – 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

You can register in person at Letterkenny Shopping Centre on May the 3rd between 10am – 6 pm, on May the 9th between 5pm to 7pm at ATU An Dánlann Building, or sign up online at darknessintolight.ie

Sign up before Wednesday, 30th April, for the opportunity to purchase one of the brand new official 2025 Darkness into Light T-shirts and receive it ahead of the walk.

Speaking ahead of this year’s event Orla Callaghan, Chairperson of the Letterkenny Darkness into Light Committee, said: “I’ve been involved in organising Darkness into Light here in Letterkenny for 3 years, and this is the 12th year the event has been held in Letterkenny. Every year I see how much it means to our community. At any time, any one of us could need the FREE services Pieta provides, and the money we raise for Pieta through Darkness into Light helps make sure that support is always there when it’s needed most.

“Whether you’ve been directly impacted by suicide or self-harm, or simply want to show your support, we are asking everyone in Letterkenny to register to come out and walk with us this year. Together, we can help bring hope to people in who need it and work to prevent suicide and self-harm in our community.”

Darkness into Light is more than a fundraiser – it’s a powerful statement of hope, solidarity, and community support. The committee invites everyone to join on Saturday 10th May at 4.15am.
