Instances of hate crimes and hate-related incidents rose again in Ireland in 2024, according to Gardaí.

An Garda Siochana say that there were 732 discriminatory movivated incidents or crimes last year in the state – up four percent on 2023’s figure of 696.

Of those, 592 were hate crimes and 84 were hate-related incidents.

Gardaí also said that there were increases in the nine types of discriminatory motives for crimes that Gardaí track – and they are urging anyone who is the victim of a hate crime to come forward.

Anti-race and anti-nationality discrimination were the two most prevalent motives in reported hate crimes – at 39 percent and 25 percent respectively.

The majority of these hate and hate-related crimes were public order incidents (31%), minor assaults (22%) and criminal damage incidents (16%).
