One of Donegal’s most iconic seaside restaurants is to close.

After 36 years in business, Kealy’s Seafood Bar in Greencastle have announced it will not open for the 2025 season.

Located in the bustling Inishowen harbour, the restaurant was opened in 1989 by James and Tricia Kealy after it had originally been a pub owned and run by James’ parents.

The heartbroken owners said “the time is right to close on our own terms, as the three of us focus on the next stages of our lives.”

They also thanked people for “the incredible support that has allowed us to survive and thrive in this beautiful little corner of Donegal which we call our home”.

The following is the touching note left by the Kealys on their Facebook page.

Another slice of Donegal gone but which will live long in the memory of many.
