The Solas Rooms Extension is a remarkable new addition to the school’s infrastructure, featuring two spacious, purpose built classrooms tailored to meet the individual needs of students.
The facility also includes a multi purpose hall, Special Educational Teaching (SET) and Wellbeing Room, sensory rooms, soft play areas, and a sensory garden with a bespoke water feature, all designed to foster a nurturing and inclusive learning environment.
Already, the impact of the Solas Rooms has been deeply felt. The twelve pupils currently enrolled are thriving in an environment that supports sensory regulation, occupational therapy, and the development of vital social skills. The design of the space encourages collaboration and connection, with regular reverse integration activities ensuring meaningful interactions between Solas Room students and their peers in mainstream classes.
The success of the Solas Rooms is reflected in the achievements of its pupils, who recently earned national recognition with a win at the Pickerpal Art Competitions. They are also enthusiastically engaged in a planting project at the school, showcasing their creativity and love of learning.
Designed by the award winning MacGabhann Architects of Letterkenny and constructed by the highly regarded McDermott Trearty Construction, the Solas Rooms Extension stands as a beacon of progress for the Kilmacrennan community and a testament to the school’s dedication to providing a vibrant, inclusive, and future focused educational experience.
