Coleman to captain Everton in final game at Goodison Park

It has been reported that Killybegs-native Seamus Coleman is to captain Everton today as the club plays its last ever game at Goodison Park.

The match, against Southampton, will be his first start since St Stephen’s Day following a long list of injuries.

Everton will move to a new 52,888-seater stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock next season.

Last week, manager David Moyes confirmed Coleman would be at the club ‘one way or another’ next season. He was speaking after reports that the popular 36-year-old may be on his way to another club.

Considered by many as a role model, he signed a new deal with his club last year and is now in a record 16th season at Goodison Park.

Coleman came off the bench in Everton’s 3-1 win over Fulham last weekend. He has also been named in the Republic of Ireland squad for the friendlies against Senegal and Luxembourg next month.
