Donegal County Council is to receive almost €500,000 for marine five infrastructure projects.
The funding was announced today by Minister of State for Fisheries and the Marine Timmy Dooley.
The grant will assist the council in the maintenance and development of fishery and aquaculture linked marine infrastructure in their ownership.
The five Donegal projects are as follows:
Deputy Pat ‘the Cope’ Gallagher said the funding will go toward the completion of a quay wall/Capping beam in Burtonport.
“Funding of €30,000 has been awarded to Ross na nGurragh pier Maghery to construct new steps to make the pier safer and more accessible at all stages of the tide,” Deputy Gallagher added.
“I welcome the funding and it will allow the completion of both projects.”
Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Martin Heydon, said this year’s package of €4.33 million for 57 projects nationally is the largest allocation to the Local Authority Marine Infrastructure Scheme, outside of the BALAMI Scheme.
“It will improve the facilities and amenities for the wider marine community in these often rural coastal areas, with positive knock-on-effects for fishers, tourism and local economies,” he said.
“This investment demonstrates the Government’s ongoing commitment to rural and coastal Ireland.”
The Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine will administer the programme and will co-fund up to 75% of the eligible project costs, up to a maximum reimbursement of €187,500, with the local authority co-funding the remaining costs.
