Planning permission has been granted for a new student apartment building in Letterkenny.
The 32-unit complex will be constructed off the Ramelton Road and beside the An Grianan Theatre and the Regional Cultural Centre.
Permission was granted to applicants M&B Kelly, subject to 14 conditions.
The accommodation also contains a day room, servery, laundry room, IT room and plant room.
Intending to cater to ATU Letterkenny students, the layout has been designed to “house international students comfortably and to a high level of comfort and security and that will act like a home away from home.”
Donegal County Council has instructed that the approved residential units can only be used for student accommodation or accommodation related to a Higher Education Institute, and only during the academic year. They cannot be sold or let as holiday accommodation or independent living units.
The applicants have also been ordered to pay €50,000 for a raised table pedestrian crossing to be installed to encourage pedestrians to use the wider footpath on the opposite side of the road running along the An Grianán Theatre.
The proposed development has been designed as a car-free facility, with one disabled parking space along with 32 bicycle parking spaces.
During the planning process, some elements of the plans were revised to ensure the complex aligns with the approved Cultural Corridor design for Letterkenny, linking An Grianan Theatre, the Regional Cultural Centre, Donegal County Museum, Letterkenny Tennis Club and Letterkenny Boxing Club.
