The announcement of the approval of €1,305,917 for seventeen Donegal community projects has been welcomed.
The Donegal tranche of the Community Recognition Fund was confirmed earlier by Minister for Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht, Dara Calleary.
The fund was administered by Donegal Local Development Committee and supports local communities that have welcomed new arrivals from Ukraine and other countries.
The largest allocation for a Donegal project goes to Letterkenny Youth and Community Centre – the group is receiving €149,917 for the upgrade of its existing building on Lower Main Street. The Carrick Regeneration Group will also receive €130,000 for the purchase of a site in the village for a civic space.

Deputy Pat ‘the Cope’ Gallagher said the funding will have a positive impact on communities right across Donegal.
“Investing in projects in our towns and villages will greatly benefit our local communities and it’s important that facilities continue to be improved and upgraded,” he said.
Minister of State, Charlie McConalogue pointed out Donegal has a large number of groups and organisations that do excellent work in their communities.
“I am aware of how hard the people in these community groups and organisations work to maintain and improve things in their localities, and I know the money that is being allocated in this latest round of funding will be well spent,” he said.
“It’s extremely important that as many groups, clubs and organisations as possible across Donegal get the necessary funding to allow them to prosper and develop, and expand over time.”
