A Status Yellow moderate rain warning in place for Donegal today has been extended until 9pm tonight.
The alert came into effect at 7am and was initially to remain until 5pm.
Met Éireann is now forecasting heavy rain with a chance of isolated thunderstorms. Possible impacts include localised flooding, poor visibility and difficult travelling conditions.
There is also a risk of thunderstorms and lightning damage.
Other affected counties include Cavan, Monaghan, Leitrim, Roscommon and Sligo.
It will remain warm with temperatures expected to reach between 16 and 18 degrees, with moderate southeasterly winds.
Tonight will also see plenty of cloud with showers and isolated thunderstorms possible. A humid night with areas of mist and fog developing. Lowest temperatures of 12 to 15 degrees in moderate southeast winds.
The outlook for the coming days will bring continued humid conditions with heavy showers and the risk of thunderstorms across the country, particularly on Friday and Saturday. Sunday is forecast to bring more dry weather and sunny spells.
