A stunning celebratory painting of Michael Murphy is set to help feed children worldwide.
The painting by local artist Paul Rush, titled “The Man”, is the star prize of a raffle for Mary’s Meals.
GAA enthusiasts and art lovers alike are set to be vying for the prize, which depicts Murphy at the final whistle of the All Ireland Senior Championship Semi-Final against Cork in 2012. The original photo was taken by James Crombie for INPHO.
The second prize in the raffle is a framed Donegal jersey, personally signed by the current Donegal team. The third prize is a Donegal jersey.
The inspiration for this unique fundraiser came about when Fr Kelly, chairperson of Mary’s Meals, was visiting the studio of Paul Rush, who was painting a picture for his church.
On the wall of the studio was this wonderful painting of Michael Murphy.

“The Man” by Paul Rush
Later that evening, when a friend inquired if there was anything he could do to help Mary’s Meals, Fr Kelly suggested, “If we could get this great picture we could have a draw that would help Mary’s Meals feed more children.”
“Get it,” the friend replied, and so the idea for a raffle featuring “The Man” was born.
Funds raised from the raffle will directly support Mary’s Meals’ mission to provide a daily meal for schoolchildren in some of the world’s poorest communities. Every eleven cent raised provides another meal, and €22 ensures a child receives a meal every school day for an entire school year.
