Donegal County Council is facing calls to improve pedestrian safety on the Ballyraine road in Letterkenny by upgrading street lighting.
Councillor Jimmy Kavanagh brought his concerns before a meeting of the Letterkenny-Milford Municipal District this week. He pointed out that the section of road between the Oatfield mini-roundabout and the back entrance to ATU is poorly lit.
Councillor Kavanagh also highlighted that part of the path along this stretch has a steep drop.
“This is a very popular route for walkers and it’s busy with students going to ATU and walking into town, but the whole area is without lights,” Cllr Kavanagh said.
“There’s a hazardous section at Trio foods where the fence ends and there’s a large drop.”
The lighting requirements for the road are now set to be reviewed as part of the Ballyraine Road scheme within Letterkenny’s active travel programme.
Cllr Kavanagh welcomed the response from the council that lighting may included as the project progresses to detail design stage, following the passage of Part 8 planning in May.
