The Cathaoirleach’s Concert, a magical evening of music and solidarity, has raised €7,525 for Donegal Domestic Violence Services.
Cllr. Niamh Kennedy proudly presented the proceeds of her event to Dr. Marie Hainsworth, CEO of DDVS recently.
The special concert with Moya Brennan and Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh and guests took place at An Grianán Theatre on Good Friday, April 18th.
The guest performers on the night included The Friel Sisters, spoken word artists Maura Logue and Valerie Bryce, Buncrana’s George Houston – who appeared on Later with Jools Holland over the weekend – Gaoth Dobhair singer-songwriters Larabel and Eoghan Ó Fearraigh, and the award-winning Danu Young Women’s Choir.
The concert was an initiative of An Cathaoirleach, Cllr. Kennedy, who was keen to “highlight the very serious issue of domestic violence and abuse and to raise funds for Donegal Domestic Violence Services, which enables them to provide safe homes for families and individuals who need protection.”
Cllr. Kennedy and Dr. Hainsworth would like to extend sincere thanks to the public who supported the event in such numbers, to Moya and Mairéad and all of the artists who performed so well on the night, and to the team at An Grianán Theatre and the staff at Donegal County Council who ensured that the concert ran smoothly and to the highest professional standards.
