Gardaí have seized a number of cars today at checkpoints around the county as motor enthusiasts arrived for the Donegal International Rally.
Two vehicles were taken off the road outside Letterkenny by Letterkenny Roads Policing Unit during a joint checkpoint with the Road Safety Authority (RSA).
One car (main pic) was seized as it was deemed to be dangerous/defective. The other had not been taxed in over six months.
In south Donegal, meanwhile, another driver was stopped today by Ballyshannon Gardaí on their way to the rally and their car was seized as it had no insurance, tax or NCT.

Gardaí from Ballybofey Garda Station also detected a number of road traffic offences at their checkpoint this evening outside the town.
Fixed Charge Penalty Notices will be issued to the drivers concerned.
“We are out on the roads conducting high visibility checkpoints and we are applying a zero tolerance approach in relation to road traffic offences,” a garda spokesperson said.
“Do not take unnecessary risks. Do not take to the roads unless your vehicle is in a safe and roadworthy condition and your documentation is in order/up to date.”
