Gardaí are taking a tough stance on excessively tinted windows this weekend as car enthusiasts flocked to Donegal for the rally.
Checkpoints extended beyond Donegal in recent days as large volumes of traffic made their way to the north west.
In Monaghan, the roads policing unit reported a number of vehicles were stopped with illegal tints.
Excessively tinted windows on a vehicle’s windscreen and front side windows are illegal and can result in fines and penalty points.
“Effects of illegal tints reduce visibility, especially at night or in low light conditions and can hinder a driver’s ability to see other road users and pedestrians, increasing the risk of collisions,” said gardaí.
A vehicle’s windscreen and front side must have a minimum light transmission rate of 65% in order to pass the NCT.
Gardaí in Monaghan also reported that one vehicle in particular making its way to the rally was stopped for no nct and seized.
Other offences for speeding and non display of N plates were also detected.
The Lexus vehicle pictured above was stopped with no NCT and was seized.
“Fixed charge penalty notices will be issued to the drivers,” said gardaí.
