With the Donegal International Rally drawn to a close, gardaí have issued their thanks to the vast majority of attendees for their conduct over the weekend.
Gardaí commended rally-goers, saying, “We wish to thank the majority of those who visited Donegal over the course of the rally weekend for their compliance and co-operation. Most of the visitors were law abiding and a pleasure to deal with. We hope you all had an enjoyable weekend.”
The annual rally, a highlight in the Irish motorsport calendar, once again brought thousands of car enthusiasts to Donegal.
In the lead up to the weekend, Gardaí significantly boosted their presence, deploying extra officers and unmarked patrol cars across the county. This approach led to numerous checkpoints, high-visibility patrols and educational initiatives.
The heightened enforcement resulted in a considerable number of dangerous drivers being taken off the road alongside detections for various offences. Drink and drug driving, speeding, illegal car modifications, and vehicles operating without NCT certificates or insurance were among the detections by roads policing units.
Despite these detections, the overall message from An Garda Síochána was to ‘Keep the Race in its Place’ and they were pleased with the cooperation of the vast majority.
“For those who have yet to travel home, we wish you a safe journey,” the statement said.
“We hope to see you all again in 2026!”
