Deputy Charles Ward has urged Taoiseach Micheál Martin to commit to a new school building for Scoil Mhuire in Milford in the Dáil chamber today.

The 100% Redress Party TD claimed the current building is ‘not fit for purpose’.

“There are severe issues with the children’s toilets in the current building,” Deputy Ward said.

“There is no green play area, denying the children the opportunity for any meaningful physical activity, there is a severe lack of classroom space and as a result teachers are forced to teach pupils in the corridor or storeroom, and there are serious road safety issues, children have had so many near misses”.

Deputy Ward added that no form of refurbishment can address these issues and said that a new school building is required ‘to ensure the children in Milford are able to receive a proper education and are able to develop in a safe environment.

In response the Taoiseach asked Deputy Ward to send him the details of the issue to raise with the Minister for Education.
