Here are this week’s Finn Valley AC Notes:
It was a record-breaking weekend for Finn Valley AC athletes – again, at home and abroad.
At the Bauhaus Juniorengala in Mannheim, Germany, Finn Valley AC athlete Conor Kelly clocked a new Donegal record – and a European Junior lead time – in the 400m. His new mark is also a national U20 record.
Conor finished in 46.09 seconds, beaten only by South Africa’s Leendert Koekemoer.
The time beats his own previous best of 46.18 and sees him go ahead of Tomas Horak in the European Junior top list for the year.
The National Junior Championships and European Juniors on the horizon in the coming weeks for Conor.
Conor was also part of the 4x400m relay team which set the national U20 record at the same meet. Conor ran the anchor in a 45.95-second split and the Irish quarter clocked 3:08.31 – also a new European U20 lead time.
The time lowers their previous best of 3:10.14 with Alex Cullen, Sean Doggett and David Davitt also running and the team coach is Finn Valley AC’s own Dermot McGranaghan
At the European Teams Championships in Maribor, Slovenia, Arlene Crossan clocked a new PB and a Finn Valley AC club record.
In the 400m hurdles, Arlene finished in 59.14 seconds, lowering her previous mark of 59.37 set last month.
Back over the barriers again in recent weeks, it’s great to see Arlene back in the Irish vest at the weekend again.
At the same Championships, Roisin Flanagan finished sixth in the 5000m. The Finn Valley AC woman came through in 16:04.21.
A large crowd of Finn Valley AC athletes made their way to Tullamore at the weekend for days 1 and 2 of the National Juvenile Championships.
Amy Timoney provided the highlight from a Finn Valley AC perspective, taking a silver medal and a bronze medal – not to mention a new club record in the 100m hurdles.

There was also a silver medal for Leah O’Gara and a bronze for Paraic McGettigan.
In the U19 100m hurdles final, Amy Timoney clocked a new PB and Finn Valley AC club record of 14.32 seconds to grab silver. The time was actually under the previous championship best (14.38), but so too was the time of the winner, Abigail Farrell who won in 14.15.
Amy has shaved further time off her own PB and is certainly heading in the right direction with coach Shauna Carlin. On Saturday, she picked up a bronze in the U19 100m when crossing the line in 12.49 seconds.
In the U17 3000m race walk, Leah O’Gara also secured silver with the Termon teenager finishing in 16:10.04 while Paraic McGettigan surged to his first national individual medal when running 5:30.77 to earn the Ballybofey lad the bronze medal in the U18 2000m steeplechase.

Adam was also eighth in the 80m final while there were fifth-placed finishes for Alison Mbuli in the U13 high and Katie Louise McMonagle in the U18 long jump.
