Nomadic Foods, which employs more than 100 people in Killygordon, has been given a timely boost after its parent company announced the acquisition of Münsterland, a leading German Ready-to-Drink (RTD) specialist.

The acquisition is part of Kerga’s strategy to build a European group of convenience food and beverage businesses, with Nomadic Foods in Killygordon a central part of that ambition.

Münsterland is a long-established, family-origin business with more than 100 years of heritage.

Known for its iced coffees, protein drinks, and natural energy teas, Münsterland’s products are distributed in over 20 countries.

The company also partners with well-known European beverage brands such as Jimmy’s Iced Coffee, which is widely available across Irish and UK retailers. Its manufacturing site in North West Germany is known for technical innovation and sustainable packaging.

Kerga, jointly owned by Irish investors BiaVest and Development Capital, also owns Nomadic Foods, the fast-growing chilled convenience food brand based in Killygordon. Nomadic’s range of yogurt and oat cluster based snacks is now a familiar presence in stores across Ireland and the UK and continues to grow in export markets.

Speaking about the acquisition, Killygordon-based Alan Cunningham, Chief Executive of Kerga and Nomadic Foods said the deal marks another major step forward in building their European presence.

He added “We’re proud to have Nomadic Foods, developed and produced here in Donegal, at the heart of that growth story. With Münsterland now joining the group, we are on track to sell more than 100 million units across Europe next year.

“Our Killygordon team is building something special, doing so against global giants. We operate in a fiercely competitive sector and can never take what we are building for granted.

“Protecting what we’ve achieved while expanding our presence is key to maintaining momentum, now and into the future. It’s how we continue to defy the odds, just as we have for the past 25 years,” Cunningham concluded.
