Donegal athletes will be returning to the hills with seven gold medals in hand after an extremely successful national U20 and U23 athletics championships in Tullamore.
On the track there were two superb golds for Donegal runners – Letterkenny AC’s Erin Friel charged to victory in the women’s U20 400m race, while Ethan Dewhirst from Tír Chonaill AC crossed the line first in the men’s U20 400m hurdles.
Finn Valley AC had a pair of gold medalists in the long jump, Riona Doherty leaping to victory in the women’s U20 event, and Oisin Thompson coming out on top in the men’s U23 long jump.
Donegal athletes also brought home a gold medal haul in the throwing events.
The Gallen sisters, Adrienne and Caoimhe, brought home a pair of golds for Lifford Strabane AC.
Adrienne was victorious in the U23 hammer throw, while Caoimhe won the U20 shotput.
There was also a gold for Tír Chonaill AC’s Ava Anderson in the U20 weight for distance event.
