July 11, 2025

A man has pleaded guilty to causing a serious injury to another man in a crash in Letterkenny.

Ethan Grochowicki admitted careless driving causing serious bodily harm to Yousaff Ghaffer in the November 17, 2023 collision.

Grochowicki tendered a guilty plea when he appeared at Letterkenny Circuit Court.

The 22-year-old, with an address at Clonmany Glebe, Terhoran, Clonmany, spoke only to plead guilty when he was formally arraigned before Judge Roderick Maguire.

He was charged that on November 17, 2023 at Garrowcarry, Letterkenny, he drove a vehicle, a black Audi A4, without due care and attention thereby causing serious bodily harm to Mr Ghaffer.

The charge is Contrary to Section 52 (1) and 52 (2) of the Road Traffic Act, 1961 (as substituted by Section 4 of the Road Traffic (No 2) Act 2011).

Ms Fiona Crawford BL, barrister for the State, said there was no objection to Grochowicki being released on continuing bail.

The defendant’s solicitor, Mr Colm Smyth SC, told the court that his client has no previous convictions.

Mr Smyth asked that a probation report be ordered for his client. He also sought for legal aid to be extended to cover reports from a doctor and a counsellor, remarking that Grochowicki has “suffered serious depression”

Judge Maguire consented and adjourned the case to October.
