Stranorlar driver charged with careless driving causing serious harm to another man

A Stranorlar man has appeared in court charged with careless driving causing serious bodily harm to another person.

Brandon Chambers appeared at Letterkenny District Court in connection with the alleged offence.

The 24 year old is charged with causing harm to Winston Stewart following an incident at Navenny Street in Ballybofey.

He is charged that on February 7th, 2023 Navenney Street, Ballybofey, did drive a vehicle, without due care and attention thereby causing serious bodily harm to another person, namely Winston Stewart

The charge is Contrary to section 52(1) & 52(2)(a) of the Road Traffic Act, 1961 (as substituted by section 4 of the Road Traffic (No. 2) Act 2011).

Chambers, of Woodlawn, Stranorlar, did not speak during the brief hearing.

Garda Rory McGowan gave evidence of the arrest, charge and caution of Chambers and said the accused made no reply when charged.

Solicitor for the accused, Mr Patsy Gallagher, said there was an application for bail and that Gardai had no objection to the application.

He added that directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions will be required given the nature of the charge.

Judge Eiteain Cunningham granted bail to Chambers on his own bond of €200 nil cash.

She also ordered him to be of good behaviour and be available by phone to be contactable at all times.

The case was adjourned to a sitting of Letterkenny District Court in November.
