Directions are awaited in the case of two men who are in custody following a burglary in Kilmacrennan in June.
Brandon McGinley and Adrian Mitchell appeared at Letterkenny District Court this week via video link from Castlerea Prison, where they have been on remand since their arrest.
The pair were allegedly armed with a baseball bat and machete during the incident in the area of Gort Na Rí, Kimacrennan in the early hours of June 10, 2025.
McGinley (25) and Mitchell (19), both Glenard Park, Long Lane, Letterkenny have each been charged with entering a building as a trespasser and committing an arrestable offence, to wit, section 11 of the Firearms and Offensive Weapons Act, 1990, namely that they produced an article capable of inflicting serious injury.
The charge is contrary to section 12 of the Criminal Justice (Theft and Fraud Offences) Act, 2001.
McGinley and Mitchell were identified after a manhunt was launched. Gardai had appealed for anyone who saw two men aboard a scrambler motorbike in the Gort Na Rí area to come forward.
They were previously refused bail when they were brought before a sitting of Buncrana District Court and this week Sergeant Jim Collins told the court that a file has been submitted and the State would “seek to expedite matters”.
“Time is passing,” solicitor Mr Rory O’Brien, who represents both men, said.
The court heard that Mitchell was refused High Court bail last week and Sergeant Collins said there were “matters to clarify” in relation to that defendant.
The pair are due again before Letterkenny District Court next month for directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Earlier in the month, Mr O’Brien said he was reserving his position when told that the file had not yet been sent to the DPP and added: “I would have thought that the file would have been progressed given the effort given to the bail objection.”
